Kuching lasses grab Under-15 top three spots

MIRI: The Sarawak Closed Tenpin Bowling Association Under-15 Ladies categories on Wednesday saw three young lasses from Kuching grabbing the top three spots in the warm-up phase of the competition.

The champion, 13-year old Ellysha Syafeena Roshaili, who originally hailed from Kuching but who is now studying at SMK Methodist in Sibu, said she was surprised that she managed to score 751 and emerge as the champion.

“I am really surprised with my own performance but at the same instance, I am also very happy that I won the first place” said Ellysha.

Ellysha said that when she was in Primary 4, she developed the interest in bowling when she saw the national bowler Shalin Zulkifli playing on the television.

“Shortly after that, I sought my father’s permission to take up bowling and ever since I never regretted my decision” added Ellysha.

Ellysha added that she was nervous in the initial first two games but managed to calm her nerves and gradually got into the game.

Ellysha’s most recent competition was her participation in the MSSM which was held in Melaka last April and she managed to place herself in the top 20 for both the Under-15 singles and the doubles categories.

First runner-up 13-year old Raylin Ang Ke Xin who is a student SMK Batu Lintang said she took up the sport because she was influenced by her father who is himself an avid bowler when she was at a tender age of eight.

Raylin’s last competition was in last year’s Sabah League in July.

“I emerged as the champion in the Under-12 category in the Sabah League and this is my first time bowling in Miri’s Megalanes East” said Raylin.

Raylin scored a total of 673 pins to win the second place.

Third place 15-year old Nerosha Keligit, who is a student of SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor, said she was a little disappointed with her performance on Tuesday’s competition because she said she could have done better.“This is also my first time bowling at Miri and we just arrived in Miri by bus this morning prior to the game in the evening” “We started our trip by bus on Monday evening at around 7pm and only reached Miri at 9am, today” added Nerosha.

Nerosha deduced that her performance might be effected due to her lack of rest as she was not able to rest well during the 14-hour trip.

Chatty Nerosha said that the last competition she participated in was the 2010 Sarawak League where she was the champion under the category that she competed.Nerosha said her mother, who is a bowler herself, is her main source of influence and fired up her interest in bowling ever since she was in Primary 3.

All three girls will compete again in the Sports Excel Sarawak Leg Junior Circuit this weekend at the Bintang Plaza’s Megalanes East.So don’t miss the opportunity to catch them in action there.
