Fruitful trip for Sarawakians
PETALING JAYA: The team of state bowlers sponsored by the Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABAS) enjoyed another fruitful trip to the Sunway Mega Lanes at Sunway Pyramid in Bandar Sunway over the weekend.
Sarawakians Isaac Russell Paul emerged champion in the Men’s Graded event while Jocelyna Judith Jonathan became champion of the Girls Graded event in the 34th Canon Malaysian International Open Bowling Championship 2011 which rolled off last Friday.
Sarawak, said team manager Myron Khoo sent a team of 12 bowlers, eight from Kuching and four from Miri.
They enjoyed a fairly successful outing as many of them finished in the money.
“Overall, we had a successful outing.
Apart from Isaac and Jocelyna who did very well in winning their events, the others also won prize monies in the events they competed in,” said Khoo.
Jocelyna, a Form Three student SMK Batu Lintang, thoroughly enjoyed her first title in the Girls’ Graded event and said the win gave her extra confidence to do well in the three upcoming tournaments - the SportExcel event in June, the Sarawak Closed and the Miri Invitational.
Jocelyna, who had a high game of 246, won RM1,000 for winning the Girls Graded event while Isaac went home richer by RM10,000.
Chief coach of the Sarawak team, Angelo Koay said most of the bowlers who competed in Bandar Sunway showed improved performances.
“The bowlers are doing better and better.
They got the rewards for all the hard work they had put in training and preparing for this tournament,” said Angelo. Angelo was assisted by fellow coach Reginald Walter Angkas at Sunway Pyramid.
Apart from the two champions, Sarawak also had Nurafidza Amran finishing third in the Ladies Grade event while Anthony Luang Cheng won second place in the Boys Graded event.He took home RM1,000 while Ervin Lim, who finished fourth in the same event, won RM600.Jeremy Jerome Jonathan, who finished 6th in the event, won RM400.
Jonathan Ding, who finished 10th in the men’s graded event, won RM1,300 while Bong Ki How, who came in 11th, took home RM1,200.
Daniel Tan, who won the Boys’ graded event last year, finished 14th in the Men;s Graded evbent and won for himself RM1,000.
Meanwhile, national elite squad members Dayang Khairuniza Dhiyana and Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore did well too in the Women’s Open event hen they finished fourth and seventh respectively.Dayang Khairuniza won RM4,000 while Jacqueline won RM2,000.
