Jun Foo wins as Kuching rule again

 
MIRI: In-form bowler Chong Jun Foo defended his Youth and Men’s Open titles at the Megalanes East alley as Kuching again ruled the roost at the Sarawak Closed Bowling Championships yesterday.

Elite national bowler Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore won the Women’s Open as bowlers from Kuching, like in last year’s competition, dominated both the Men’s and Women’s Open finals.

National youth bowler Jun Foo, who showed good from the recent Malaysian National Open and the Singapore Open, beat fellow Kuchingite Jonathan Ding Sagan in the Men’s Open final while Jacqueline, who together with elite national bowler Dayang Khairunizza Dhiyana Abang Jamilon had taken a break from national training, beat last year’s champion Nurafidza Mohd Amran in the final.

Jacquel ine, who is rejoining national training at Sunway Megalanes at 6pm today, said she had expected to win the title.

“I am in good form and I hope to maintain it.I will roll off with the national team tomorrow,” said Jacqueline.She, together with Dayang, are fighting for places in the national team to compete in the Italy’s San Marino and Catalina Open and Indonesian Open next month.

Jun Foo, meanwhile, said he owed his victory to good coaching, encouragement from his parents and friends and the support from the Amateur Bowling Association of Sarawak.

Both Jun Foo and Jacqueline received their trophies and champions’ cash prize of RM500 each from Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai.Jonathan and Nurafidza each won RM300.

Also present were ABAS deputy president Haji Shaifulbahri Shukri and vice president Robert Lu.
