KUCHING: High Performance Sport Unit State or Unit Sukan Prestasi Tinggi Negera (USPTN) under National Sports Council, with the collaboration of Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) held their evaluation programme for Sarawak at Crystal Bowl here on Friday evening.

More than 40 boys and girls under 18 years old, registered for the evaluation which started at 7.30pm.

George Tan, the treasurer of MTBC, has been tasked to go around all the states to ensure that the training programme for USPTN for 2011 is managed smoothly and efficiently by all state affiliates, States Sports Councils and training centres.

Foong Tat Meng, the assistant national coach and Azidi Ameran, one of the national youth coaches, were the evaluators for the age group youth.

George Tan said he and his coaches have been going around the States for the past two months to do the evaluation with Sabah and Sarawak being the last two states to be evaluated.

The number of youths selected will ascertain the number of lanes that they will provide for the training programme in the centre.

Foong said although he has seen quite a few youths with great potentials to excel, he is, however, quite disappointed that youths from the other bowling centres, who had state development programmes (pusat cemerlang) not taking part in the evaluation although this is the best opportunity for their youth bowlers to be coached and trained to a higher level. MTBC organises annual competitions, like the SportExcel Youth Bowling Championship, in all the states.

For Sabah and Sarawak, they will compete in the Eastern Zone (home and away leg ) where all the youth bowlers of under 12, 15 and 18, will pit their skills to win ranking points for the Grand finals in Selangor.

Meanwhile , the committee of Amateur Bowling (tenpin) Association Sarawak were also present during the evaluation together with Suefarinawathy, the head of USPTN Sarawak and Reginald Walter, head coach USPTN Sarawak.
